They have only one thing on the menu, and biru of course! It is this crazy kinda japanese pancake/yiros/omlette/AB type thing. We stood out the front and watched them make them on this giant hotplate. A whole bunch of wacky stuff went on it including a handful of tiny live shrimp which were kicking around everywhere! For the record, this thing tasted awesome!
Well that's just about it for us in Kyoto. We missed out on the Golden Pavillion, and about a million other temples & shrines, but we still saw some amazing places and have really been taking it easy. We are gonna bus it out to Gion for a look tonight and then it's off to Osaka on the shinkansen in the morning. Dropping the packs off at the hotel before jumping the shink again to Himeji. Can't believe we are almost on the last leg of our trip! We are already talking about coming back!! Just enough time for a quick beer or two before we head off so it's bye for now. Love ya all, B&L
Hi guys, went for a walk round the city today...some of it anyway! As with Tokyo it just seems to be never ending. Buildings all the way to the horizon, in every direction. We walked for a good few hours today and didn't even put a dent in it. We hit Higashi-Honganji Temple today....supposedly the site of the worlds largest wooden structure. I say supposedly because it is all under reconstruction and sealed off! The size of the scaffolding around it was certainly impressive! We got to sit in on a Buddhist "mass" for want of a better word, which was very cool. Then we trekked on to Nijo Castle. There are a few pics to put up when we get a chance. The weather is completely opposite to what it was yesterday...we got pretty burnt out & about today. As usual we have eaten like kings - Mister Donut for breakfast and some amazing Ramen for lunch. We are about to head out for some dins in a minute so this is goodbye again. A full day planned for tomorrow - Himeji, the golden temple & Arashiyama bamboo forest are in our sights! Take care, love to all xoxoxo B&L
This is our new "hotel". It's really quite cool. The room is pretty compact but perfect for us! There's enough room to enjoy a beer in front of the sumo wrestling on tv....what more could you want?! (Chicken, you'll be happy to see the resident orange cat out the front, moochin about. In typical cat fashion she refused to look at me for the picture.)
We are now in Kyoto after a 3 hour blast on the shinkansen. It has been pissing down all day....it started just as we got to the fish market this morning and hasnt really stopped. All is well here but kyoto is nothing compared to Tokyo! Hopefully we will find some cool stuff when we go exploring tomorrow. The internet connection here is painfully slow so there may not be photos for a while. Hope everyone is cool back home, miss ya (kind of!). Love to all xoxo B&L
We finally found a bar within stunbling distance of our hotel that was televising the match. First half started off well then it all went pear shaped! Quite a few litres of kirin later it was all over....defeated by AC Milan....shocker! A few tears were shed waiting for the metro out to Tskuiji. We made it out there but didn't have the heart for it so we returned home, totally gutted.
Anyway, gotta go now, we'll keep trying to post a few pics here and there as we go. We are having a blast...missing everyone, especially the lad...but having a ball none the less! The people are amazing, the food is amazing and there is a vending machine about every ten paces! Such a totally different place. We love it! Take it easy guys, will talk soon, xoxxo B&L
So this is us - legally wed & on our first international flight bound for Changi airport, Singapore. We had a brief incident at Adelaide airport before leaving. The helpful folks at the security check were convinced they could see a pocket knife in L's bag. It took us a few attempts of pulling her pack apart & repeated x-rays before it magically disappeared! How bizarre - it's almost as if it wasn't there in the first place.... Not to worry, we know they're only doing their jobs. On the whole they were very apologetic save for one special gentleman. In the interest of keeping it clean I will be generous and simply label him a complete tool.
